A small kitten that does in fact, invoke a sense of immediate sadness. The expression on this kitten is captured fantastically in both a mild curiosity (that is indicative to cats a species), and slight sadness. Quite an interesting mix of emotions there. The coloring of the scene is also oddly quite bright, which clashes with the emotions brought forth by the kitten. The contrast with that is a little too jarring due to the subdued colors in the kitten and takes the kitten away from being the main point of focus. Overall however it is hard to get away from the fact that this is a nice piece that shows subtle variations in emotion, but for me the color scheme in the background is too bold and jarring against the shades of the kitten.

Before I've forgotten, I will make note on the actual photography besides composition. The angle being slightly higher does evoke a small amount interest, but ultimately leaves more to be desired. An angle, or a different viewpoint would've made the piece more interesting than a largely straight on view. The slightly off center kitten does lead to this but not enough to make me feel that I am viewing anything more than a portrait.
